As announced in worship on Sunday, April 2, Dr. Bill Burch has been appointed to serve as Senior Pastor at Northside United Methodist Church beginning in June. Dr. Royeese Stowe has been appointed as Senior Pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville. Dr. Stowe is currently the Senior Pastor at Chamblee First United Methodist Church in Chamblee. She has also served at Covington First UMC, Franklin UMC, and Inman UMC.
Education: Dr. Stowe went to school at DeKalb College for her Associate Degree in Nursing, then to New York University for her Bachelor’s Degree. She also attended Emory University, Candler School of Theology for a Master of Divinity degree and finally the University of Chicago, McCormick Theological Seminary for her Doctor of Ministry. She worked as a nurse for many years before transitioning into traditional ministry.
Family: Dr. Stowe has a dog and beloved companion named Doogie. She also has two married sons. Matthew and his wife, Tiffany, have five children: Hannah, Mattie, Rebekah, Wyatt and Grant. Marc and his wife, Christy, have six children: Canaan, Jordan, Jenna, Chandler, Josh, and Lilly.
To relax and have fun, Dr. Stowe loves college football, professional baseball, walking with Doogie, fly fishing and reading while listening to good music. Her music of choice depends on her mood, but she loves the Eagles anytime.
When asked about her favorite food, she said food is not nearly as important to her as fellowship. She said she will eat anything but beets.
The Bible character she most identifies with is Paul. She said she loves Paul because he is always struggling with the here and now and yet to come and with tradition and a new thought. She added she is probably more like Peter who is always putting his foot in his mouth.
She says she loves her work and always has. It is fun to go to bed at night knowing that tomorrow she gets to get up and do it again.
