The Journey 2010 - The Sermon on the Mount

This year, as a church, we will be doing our annual corporate study called The Journey.   In the past it has been the 40 day Journey and the 50 Day Journey.  Since it runs over, we are dropping the length and just going with “The Journey”.

Davis has chosen the Sermon on the Mount from Matthew 5-7 as the text.  The theme will be “The Substance of our Influence.”  In his words, “The word influence is defined as the act of power of producing an effect without apparent exertion of force or direct exercise of command.  A person of influence is one who has authority.  It is actually a synonym for witness.“

The sermon topic date breakdown looks like this:

August 15 Intro Matthew:5:1-2
August 22 A Christian's Character Matthew 5:3-12
August 29 A Christian's Influence Matthew 5:13-16
September 5 A Christian's Righteousness Matthew 5:17-48
September 12 A Christian's Piety Matthew 6:1-18
September 19 A Christian's Ambition Matthew 6:19-34
September 26 A Christian's Relationships Matthew 7:1-20
October 3 A Christian's Commitment Matthew 7:21-27

If your Sunday School class is interested in doing a compatible study, resource books are available by contacting Lisa Johnson. Jim Summerbell and the Jericho Class have also committed to host a class using material authored by Jim on John Wesley's teaching on the Sermon on the Mount that will coincide with the sermon series.
